So, check it out, y'all...
We talked amongst ourselves, and we decided to enter the Memphis Blues Society 2018 Battle of the Blues Competition. Now, our motto is, "...love's what it's all about", and so we're not much on competition. We just want to spread our Original Deep Fried Memphis Music far and wide, and we believe that there's plenty of room for everyone else to do their own thing too.
Well, having said that, we entered the competition, which took place at Club 152 on historic Beale Street this past Tuesday night and Wednesday night, 9/11 and 9/12/2018. There were ten acts competing for the top slot in either the Solo / Duo category or the Band category.
There were so many awesome folks there, y'all, and so much wonderfully diverse and entertaining music was played over those two nights. Memphis truly does have a deep cauldron of artists who make up the musical melting pot in this wonderful city, and we are all better for it. In the end, there was no competition to be seen; only a club full of wonderful people networking, supporting each other, and enjoying the opportunity to share their version of the Blues with others.
Well, wouldn't you know it, we won First Place in the Band category! With all of the truly great talent that performed in this challenge, we are very honored and humbled to have been voted the top band by an elite panel of judges, including top performers, producers, and professionals in the music and broadcasting industries.
Now, we have the privilege of representing the Memphis Blues Society in the 2019, 35th Annual International Blues Challenge, along with the winner of the Solo / Duo category, Tlaxica & Pope. This will take place in Memphis, in the clubs on Beale Street, January 22-26, 2019.
Watch for more info in this in the coming months.
